William R. Murray, Sr.

William R. “Bill” Murray, Sr., age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 12, 1932, he was a son of the late Clarence A. and Pauline (Morgan) Murray. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949, and proudly served for 3 years.  He then dedicated 33 ½ years to Chrysler, where he met his future bride and they married on July 15, 1991 in Brewster on Cape Cod, MA.  In his earlier years, Bill was an outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid gardener.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Young) Murray; brother, Richard Murray; and brother, Wallace Murray. He is survived by his son, William R. Murray, Jr. (Bridgette); son, Edward Murray (Jackie); son, Ronald Murray; daughter, Barbara Smilyk (Rick); son, David Murray (Teresa); stepdaughter, Brenda Grinnage (David); stepson, Stephen Fenstermaker (Crystal); stepson, David Fenstermaker; stepson, Joseph Fenstermaker; 39 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many, great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 5:00 pm. Interment will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 10, 2022 in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
