William Stanley Roper III
February 2, 1943 - September 4, 2026
William Stanley Roper III, affectionately known as “Stan,” age 83, of Ocean View, DE, and formerly of Newark, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Born in Ridley Park, PA on February 2, 1943, he was a son of the late William Stanley and Hannah Elizabeth (Mackinson) Roper, Jr. Stan built his career as a field engineer with NCR in Chester, PA, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring in 1993. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed boating and geocaching. Stan also had a passion for racing and took great pleasure in working on cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Roper and Linda Maggio. Stan is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen (Gove) Roper; son, William Stanley Roper IV (Irene); sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Reigle (Bill); brother, David Roper (Rolinda); grandchildren, Andrew Roper (Kelsey), Adam Roper (Autumn), Travis Deibert, Connor Deibert, and Lauren Deibert; and great grandchildren, Kenley, Kayden, and Violet Roper.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stan’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Can’t imagine a life that my big brother Stan isn’t in. He took his role of big brother seriously and especially with our youngest sister Linda. Stan was always there to lend a helping hand or advice. He was a great teaser and quick to laugh. Our family functions will not be the same without him. Stan – please give all our loved ones, in heaven, a big hug and kiss you will be so missed by all! xo

I will miss my big brother Stan. Who will come get me when my bike breaks down? Like the time we squeezed my bike into the back of a NCR panel truck. Whether it is motorcycling, trailering or boating I can’t count how many times I’ve said my brother Stan showed me this or my brother Stan showed me that. Truly a big brother.
I would like to thank Ellen for the support she gave Stan and pray the Lord gives her strength through these trying times.
