William Thomas “Tom” Lloyd, Jr., M.D.
January 19, 1931 - June 30, 2024
William Thomas “Tom” Lloyd, Jr., M.D., age 93, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024. Tom was known to us all as a loving father, Grandpa Tom, great grandpa, pediatrician and advocate for children.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 19, 1931, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Ada (Harker) Lloyd, Sr. Dr. Lloyd graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School, Bethesda, MD in 1948, followed by the University of Maryland (College Park) in 1952, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine (Baltimore) in 1956. Following graduation, he served as a physician, ranked as Captain in the XXI US Army Corps and then moved to Delaware in 1958 for residency at the Wilmington Hospital. In 1960 he opened his private practice in Newark, DE where he served children, their families and the community for 30 years.
Tom’s main interest was spending time with his family especially at Sunday dinners, sporting events and being called upon to fix anything. Devoted to his family, he took pride in carpentry and electrical projects as well as automotive tinkering. Perhaps his most rewarding cause was being one of the driving forces of the Omega campaign to build the Christiana Hospital.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Marylou Stefanacci Lloyd, who he was married to for 43 years. He is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren as follows: Amy Lloyd West (Mike), Michael West; LeeAnn Lloyd Dennewitz (Tracey), Meghan Dennewitz, Connor Dennewitz, Ryan Dennewitz (Haley), Abigail Dennewitz and Jack Dennewitz; Janis Lloyd Nutini (Patrick), Robert Nutini, Christine Townsend (Jeffrey) and Jayson Townsend.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:30 am until 11 am on Friday, July 5, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom’s memory to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, P.O. Box 781352, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352 or online by clicking here.

I wanted to express my condolences for the loss of Dr. Lloyd. I was a patient of his for years, he was a wonderful doctor and I so loved he and his wife and how much they cared for all of their patients. An amazing man and woman who at my age ( 51) I remember them dearly. Loved them both !!

Tom and I met late in life and played bridge together for many years. He was a delightful, patient partner- and a good player! We had to part because I had family problems. I wish we had had more time together. Best wishes to all of his family.
